NYC City Council speaker wants Manhattan's only Chick-fil-A closed

Chick-fil-A only has one location in New York City, and the Big Apple’s openly gay City Council Speaker wants it out.

That sole location is at NYU, and over the weekend Christine Quinn wrote a letter to President John Sexton asking him to remove the franchise from the campus.

“Let me be clear, I do not want establishments in my city that hold such discriminatory views,” Quinn wrote in the letter. “We are a city that believes our diversity is our greatest strength and we will fight anything and anyone that runs counter to that.”

Speaker Quinn is one of the many thousands of New Yorkers to marry their same sex spouse following the legalization of gay marriage state-wide last year.

Her remarks and desire to have a Chick-fil-a-free city comes as a response to the company’s leader saying he nor the fast food chain are in support of marriage equality.

Quinn is also in the history books as New York City’s first openly gay City Council Speaker.  Next year, she hopes to become the city’s first open gay Mayor.  So far she has banked more campaign funds by any other likely candidate.
