The Grammys take on the Glammys! Help save New York's nightlife tradition

Help Save the GlammysBreaking news! The Glammy Awards, the event that Cherry Jubilee started 14 years ago to honor the best in New York’s nightlife industry, are under attack. You’ll probably be as shocked as I am was to hear that is is actually the GRAMMY Awards, yes as in the National Academy of Recording Artists, who is trying shut down Cherry’s evening of recognition for drag queens, dancers, writers, bars and clubs.

The battle started when Cherry tried to trademark the GLAMMY name.  Little did she know that the GRAMMY awards would try to stand in her way.

Cherry says the National Academy of Recording Artists has sent their legal team to try and stop Cherry from using the GLAMMY name accusing her of ripping off the GRAMMYs.

In a statement to GaySocialites.com, Cherry said,

“The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences opposed the trademark application claiming the similarities of our LGBT event?s name to their “GRAMMYS”  mark would “damage” their mark.”

Although she’s up against the big dogs, Cherry refuses to back down.  She asks that everyone sign this petition and offers these facts for your consideration:

“The GLAMMY AWARDS have never recognized anyone for achievements in the
recording industry as the GRAMMY AWARDS does.

The GRAMMY AWARDS does not speci?cally recognize anyone for their achievements
in the LGBT nightlife community as the GLAMMY AWARDS does.

There is a huge obvious difference and to think anyone would confuse one for the other
is absurd.

Of course the lawyers tried every shady tactic in the book. They were trying to make the
case that since some Grammy nominated people happen to be gay, that it would be
confusing to differentiate the two events. The lawyer comes up with about 10-15 LGBT
recording artist names out of the hundreds of thousands Grammy nominees over 50
years. Ridiculous. And to show how out of touch they are with the LGBT community,
they try to tell me that former singer of the group “Seduction” and judge on RuPaul?s
“Drag Race” Michelle Visage use to do hosting for some Grammy events and since she
is a tranny, it would cause confusion. For starters, she is NOT a tranny. So ridiculous.

Since the GLAMMY AWARDS “organization” consists of one person (Cherry Jubilee), is
nonpro?t and has no net worth – there is no money for legal expenses to ?ght against
the multi-million dollar GRAMMY corporation. Knowing this they rallied their lawyers and
fought a legally defenseless.”

Since the Academy has threatened to sue Cherry and XL, the venue where the awards are set to take place this year; she has agreed to refer to this year’s awards show as the GLAMS.   However, with your help… this battle isn’t over.

Who knew the Glammys had gotten so big?!  Now I really want one.
