New York City Mayor Mike Boomberg is jumping into the race to pass gay marriage in Maryland. The Republican-turned-Independent has evidently donated $250,000 to the cause.
According to CNN, Bloomberg sent a letter with his hefty check which outlines his support for passing marriage equality in as many states as possible. He notes his interest in Maryland since that’s where he attended college.
Bloomberg was instrumental in passing the bill that legalized gay marriage in New York standing beside Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, as be actively lobbied for the legislation. The two pledged financial support and campaign assistance to members of the Republican-led Senate who crossed party lines to help legalize same sex marriage in the Empire State.
Bloomberg is currently serving an unprecented third term as mayor but is not eligible to run for election.
