Scott Wittman is a busy man. In addition to writing lyrics every week for Smash‘s show-within-a-show Bombshell (and serving as an executive producer for the NBC hit), and working as Creative Consultant for the much-anticipated new cabaret space 54 Below, he has conceived and directed Jukebox Jackie, currently playing at LaMaMa ETC. Jukebox Jackie: Snatches of Jackie Curtis is a collage of scenes, poetry, music and dance culled from the works of Jackie Curtis, who performed as both a man and a woman throughout his career in the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s, stating, “I’m not a boy, not a girl. I’m just me, Jackie.”
(Editor’s Note: Earlier in the year, GaySocialites.com presented the State Of Gay Nightlife address where we determined that nightlife is what you make of it. The Ritz is certainly making its own determination of what nightlife should be, and the GaySocialites team is less than thrilled with their definition.)
I am fond of the drink. This has been and never will be any sort of secret. I, Demanda Dahling, am very fond of the drink. And I’ll drink anything really, as long as it has an alcohol content above that of Nyquil. My go-to drinks though are iced V’s (read: vodka on the rocks), and white wine (read: really cheap white wine, because bitch is on a budget). So, I drink.. heavily. And, like most of us who drink (heavily), I occasionally misbehave. One would think this would welcome in a New York City club–crazy queens, mischief, wild times, and hey, most of those who dress up do it for free! It’s a win-win, right? Apparently not.

I remember my mother and grandmother would talk about wishing they could have Sassoon haircuts. As a young boy that thought his granny had the ultimate style, if she said it, it was LAW. I didn’t know what Sassoon was then, but the sound of it was just invigorating and sexy. It’s a name I’ve never forgotten. Flecks and moments of childhood Sassoon memories float in and out of focus….
