Zach Wahls became a YouTube sensation when he gave a passionate speech in the Iowa House on January 31, 2011, about growing up with two mothers and explaining the love that he was brought up in. The video has received over seventeen million views and became the number one watched political video on the site for 2011. Since then Wahls has become a successful author, penning the best seller “My Two Moms-Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family.” On Thursday, September 6, Zach Wahls stepped on the stage of the Democratic National Convention and let Mitt Romney know what family means to him:
“Governor Romney says he’s against same-sex marriage because he believes every child deserves a mother and a father. I think every child deserves a family as loving and committed as mine. Because the sense of family comes from the commitment to each other, to work through the hard times. So we can enjoy the good ones. It comes from the love that binds us. That’s what makes a good family. Mr. Romney, my family is just as real as yours. ”
Wahls concluded his speech by praising Obama for understanding and supporting Wahls’ mothers’ marriage and others:
“President Obama is fighting for our families. All our families. He has our backs and Ladies and Gentlmen we have his.”
