Mariah-Carey-christopher-corner

In the seventh season of Fox’s singing sensation American Idol, pop superstar Mariah Carey was a mentor.  She had warm and caring advice for the contestants that took on her songs and it brought up some of the most stirring and emotional performances that Idol has ever produced, including a slowed-down version, with a plethora of stringed instruments, of “Always Be My Baby” by winner David Cook.  When it was announced Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler would not be back to create television magic with Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest, the world was holding their breath and on pins and needles to see who would be joining them.

Its out the with the old and in with the new at American Idol.  The “diva” chair once held by Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi and most recently by Jennifer Lopez will be occupied by Mariah Carey.

Rumors started swirling last week that Jennifer Lopez would be leaving the FOX singing competition after two seasons on the judges panel.  Idol Executive producer Simon Lythgoe offered a glimmer of hope that Lopez might early Monday saying the “On the Floor” singer was only “99%” confirmed to leave.  Then later in the day, FOX Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told a group of television critics he  spoke with Mariah on the telephone adding: “I think I can say it’s 100%.”  By night fall, Lopez made her exit official saying she would be leaving her Idol post to focus on her own music career.

British Boyband The Wanted Disses Christina Aguilera in Radio Interview!

christina and the wanted

When British Boyband The Wanted performed on The Voice they were excited to meet pop superstar Christina Aguilera.  But they realized that Xtina was not all that friendly to them.  During a radio interview with New York’s 92.3 Now, member Max George recalls that Aguilera was “a bit scary” and sat during their performance with a sour puss on her face the entire time.  But it was Tom Parker who decided to be less subtle about the whole situation calling her a “bitch,” claiming that “she just sat there and didn’t speak to us.”

The Borowski Spin

This week, our ever-ongoing quest for the best new and upcoming Dance songs yields four terrific new releases.

“Dance Again” – Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a Summer smash.  All of 2011, you couldn’t escape the collaboration of J-Lo and Pitbull on their insanely catchy “On The Floor.”  Now they’re back with a rematch that’s less a sequel to that hit and far more reminiscent of J-Lo’s jubilant  throw-down “Alive” from exactly a decade ago. Two quibbles: musically, the verse melody is so similar to Kylie’s “Disco Down” I’m tempted to label it “Reductive.”  And the opening “whooo”s are an almost exact replication of the Manhattan Clique mix of Gaga’s “Boys Boys Boys.” But none of this diminishes our enthusiasm. Or our prediction: get ready to hear this anthem all Summer long.  Now if she’d release the full version of her “I’ve Got The Music In Me” remake from her Kohl’s commercial…

REVIEW: DJ Steve Sidewalk on Bieber, Lopez and McPhee

“Boyfriend” – Justin Bieber

You can just picture all the preteen girls and gay twink lovers going crazy when Justin Bieber whisper “If I was your boyfriend…” at the beginning of the song.  Bieber matures a bit in this track although still has some “Radio Disney” nods. Yeah, he does say he’d be like Buzz Light Year.  This rap/R&B Mike Posner produced track channels the Biebs inner Justin… Timberlake that is.  This song is very similar to the N’SYNC track about a familar subject line, “Girlfriend”. But hey, I must admit I am no longer ashamed to admit I actually like a song by Bieber. And if JT is going to go into semi-music retirement, at least we have JB to fill that void.  B
