FASHION FOCUS is back and happy to have you with us! This time we’re attacking a few trendy trends and i definitely have an opinion about them. Let’s not waste any time… (I decided to use less photos in this edition because I wanted to provoke more thought and encourage you to look for these trends in your everyday realm. Maybe you’ll even want to incorporate one, or all of these trends into YOUR style section!)
The “Mullet” Dress

I. CAN’T.
I’m sorry high-low dress fans, but I am 100% NOT a fan! I have never been a fan of the mullet to begin with, but then to go and make a dress design out of this atrocity of a hairstyle?! FAIL. There are all types of these fabric mullets everywhere and I have tried to keep an impartial and unbiased opinion about them. IT HASN’T WORKED. The cheap ones I see in the streets, HATE ‘EM. The couture editions I hate a bit less. Generally don’t like to throw the word hate around, but this is fashion, and more importantly FASHION FOCUS. I declare my extreme dislike of this trendy trend. So “YUCK!” to the mullet dress! Burn them all!

Y.U.C.K. !!!
The Denim Shirt

I have never really had a problem with denim shirts. I have, however, felt that they give a certain kind of vibe that is reminiscent of earlier decades. It has never been my favorite style choice, but I was never vehemently against it either. While browsing through the latest GQ magazine (with cover model Joseph Gordon-Levitt) I ran into a “GQ Endorses” bubble within the denim shirt section.

The title of the piece reads “The Denim Shirt That Just Got Promoted”. Interesting, right? Well, it tells us that paired with the right tie, an appropriate suit and of course being fitted perfectly, the denim shirt transitions from having the workwear vibe to presenting a sleeker boardroom energy. What’s your opinion on this? I think I am on the “YUM” side, BUT, I am also not about every denim shirt. It’s definitely a tricky beast! Maybe you can figure out how you want your denim arranged

The Peplum

The peplum is a fun and funky little creature that is just as “in” right now as the ridiculous mullet dress. I’m actually surprised that I actually like a trend, because usually I don’t like any trend until it’s long dead… or unless I included and incorporated it into my style before it was a trend. I like what they do for figures. I like how that flatter and create waists where there are no waists. I like that they shield trouble areas and come in all sizes. I just think they’re fun and a trend that almost anyone could add to their wardrobe. A Very big “YUM” to this trendy trend! Peplum, thumbs UP!

AND MY MOST FAVORITE PEPLUM OF ALL……….

“it’s so tasty too!”
The Henley Shirt
So, the buzz is….. the Henley is the new muscle shirt. In that same GQ Mark Byrne says that the sleeveless look is done and the new way to show muscles it from under a well-fitted, short-sleeved Henley.

I have to be honest with you fashionistas…. I have had this style of shirt here and there throughout life and I am JUST NOW finding out that they’re called Henleys. (Hey! I never claimed to be a fashion encyclopedia, just a fashionable guy with likes and dislikes.) I suppose this trendy trend could be the replacement for the sleeveless looks, or the traditional gay tank top (a tee with the sleeves cut off exposing skin on the sides), but realistically, I disagree. This type of shirt just doesn’t work with everyone’s likes or body types.

I won’t say “YUCK” …. but I will say “MEH!” A very lackluster look for me, especially when considered a replacement to a muscle shirt. We like to look at skin, and in my opinion, the more skin the better! Henley, you’re kind of boring!
———-
4 trends, numerous opinions. Where do you stand? Do you feel any of these styles? Are you already working them in your everyday wear? Do you hate the mullet dress as much as I do? (smile… and if you like the mullet dresses feel free to snarl in my general direction)
Let me know. FASHION FOCUS thrives on your feedback.
as always, “Look How You Want To Feel” ….
Until next time
