Fashion Week is in full swing and it’s as frenzied as usual here in the city. Everyone’s trying to get into a show, ANY SHOW! Of course it would be nice to go to all the shows and sit front row….. but how many of us get that chance?

EUREKA!!!!! The internet saves you AGAIN!!

Diane Von Furstenberg:
I like the prints. Contemporary yet classic. And those EARRINGS!! (If you pay attention you’ll know EXACTLY which ones I’m mentioning!)

Tadashi Shoji:
Very textured and elegant. Details details DETAILS! Structured against flowy.

BCBGMAXAZRIA :
Interesting lines…. can’t say that I’m crazy about it, but it did catch my eye…

Michael Kors:
I think I liked everything in this collection. Basic with a punch. Loved the hair on the girls and the oval belt is quite the eye-getter. Kors always gets me with his stripes… LOVED this show

Badgley Mischka:
Feminine and Flouncy

BIBHU MOHAPATRA:
Elegance meets Edge…

Regardless of what Fashion Week tells us, I always encourage you to “LOOK How YOU Want to FEEL” It all falls into place…

FASHION FOCUS: FLOTUS Fashion

The perfect hair, the belted cardigans, the arms all women want……

Welcome back to FASHION FOCUS fashionistas! Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), has proven to be quite the fashion and style icon ever since we were introduced to her. Her laid back, easy style combined with her charm, relate-ability, and overwhelming charisma solidified her position and status as a style lexicon. This week, our FASHION FOCUS is on the FLOTUS, Mrs. Michelle Obama.

Much like the very fashionable Jackie O, the FLOTUS has shown America and the world that American First Ladies have the capability to not only make a difference through deeds, programs and support of their presidential husbands, but they also knew that including impeccable style into their lives helped their causes and made them more noticeable and appealing.

Mrs. Obama has also been a driving force in displaying that a high position does NOT mean one has to break the bank to look incredible. Yes, the FLOTUS has worn high-end selections, but she is also a HUGE supporter of “regular-end” (smile) retail options. When she hit the scene in J Crew apparel, its sales boosted tremendously. Here are a few examples of her J Crew styles…. (Another thing about Mrs. Obama that you might have noticed… SHE’S NOT AFRAID TO REPEAT AN OUTFIT!)

and more…. simple, chic, able to be worn by almost anyone……. Michelle knows how to relate to the everyday woman!

There’s no denying that Mrs. Obama has transformed the way we will see first ladies forever. Her down-to-earth, everywoman, say-it-like-it-is demeanor accompanies her impressive and exciting-yet-subdued fashion sense. She “wows” us every time. She impresses the world with her grace, style, beauty, and unique, yet simultaneous common drive. She has been a force to be reckoned with and any future First Lady will have very large and stylish shoes to fill. Not to mention, Mrs. Obama has been very serious about fitness and health. There has been no other first lady that has had the “Michelle Obama Arms” ….. think about it.

Now, I invite you to enjoy a few more FLOTUS photos…

even FLOTUS’ nail polish is a trending topic!!!

Thank you for adding a touch of affordable elegance to our lives….. you are the essence of my favorite FASHION FOCUS line, “Look How You Want To Feel” …

be well FLOTUS……. you’re a beacon of style and virtue. FASHION FOCUS appreciates you!

FASHION FOCUS: August Window Talk Part 1

Welcome back to FASHION FOCUS!! After talking about those Trendy Trends” and the immeasurable Anna Piaggi, I’ve decided to revisit those talking windows that always catch my eye. However, I won’t focus on the name-dropping that is announcing each designer or store or label… I’d rather focus on the actual look rather than who made it. Some may cheer, and others may jeer. It doesn’t matter because in this 2 part series you will see many photos I shot of windows along 5th avenue (and more) and you’ll get wrapped up in the window stories and hopefully become inspired to add a few elements to your own wardrobe. For me, it’s never about the cost. In fact, some of my favorite fashion elements have been innexpensive and/or free. However, some of the designers/store names might sneak their way into the photos, but most names won’t be there. A lot of you will recognize the looks if you follow fashion and your feedback is very welcomed! Tell us which looks you love and which looks didn’t make the cut.

*Pardon the reflections in the windows, but hey, whatcha gonna do? The city is ALIVE!

casual stories, full of color. Very 90s, especially those floral prints (that skirt up there)

the Michael Kors moment…

I like how this display not only showcases the window, but leads you into the store as well… good way to show off the goods. The mannequin with the bags is fun for lots of bag girls out there. Quite the draw-in! The easy trench matched with a tshirt and leather pants looks fun and doable for lots of sizes and shapes.

the following few are subtly hinting… note the carefully placed keywords

kind of dark on the colors, but you can tell they’re pushing us into the Fall… very sleek looks, and I love those thin pleated dresses

Love the layered look of this garment

and of course these brighter moments are fun for fall!

Denim moments from Guess

these easy moments are for those that enjoy their casual in a casually cool fashion

I Love this multi-level display!!! So much to see…. so much to consider!

and then there’s Cole Haan…..

Some people just LOVE Cole Haan…….. ;-)

deep reds…..

More to come in part 2, including more Menswear! Lots on display here and I share only to keep you aware of what 5th avenue is telling us. What did you think? I see full Fall preparation ahead. It will definitely be here before we all know it, and fashionable people like us have to be ready! :-) Get your layers out as well as you outdoor AND indoor scarves! If your trench is ill-fitting, make sure it’s because YOU WANT IT THAT WAY. Wool capped hipsters, it’s almost time for people to stop giving you dirty looks because of your wool-cap-in-the-summer effect.

MOST IMPORTANTLY..

*Look How You Want To Feel*

FASHION FOCUS: R.I.P. Anna Piaggi, a look at the LOOKS

Anna Piaggi… fashion reporter, editor, divinor of trends, designers’ muse and self-styled icon has retreated to the next realm and many in the fashion world and those interested and/or influenced are mourning her passing.

A contributor to dozens of Italian fashion magazines including Vogue Italia, an author, a visionary, and an owner of an incredible collection of clothes that was on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Anna Piaggi was an iconic persona in the world of fashion. Known for her freely expressed artistic vision on the pages of Vogue just as much as for her eccentric personal style, she was described by Bill Cunningham as a “fine poet in clothes”, and was Karl Lagerfeld’s longtime inspiration. Here are some of our favorite fashion moments of Anna Piaggi.

An inspiration to many… admired by all she touched, Piaggi was truly a gem in the world. The statement she made in fashion is everlasting. Her spirit lives on!

Manolo Blahnik dubbed her “The world’s last great authority on frocks”

Her associates in the fashion world included the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld (from the 1970s), who has often sketched her, and Manolo Blahnik, who is the designer of many of her shoes. She was the muse of British milliner Stephen Jones. She was also an admirer of British clothes designer Vivienne Westwood and her hats, made by Prudence Millinery.

For years, Piaggi’s vibrant dress sense _ including funky hats and theatrical makeup _ made her stand out on the front rows of Milan and Paris runway shows.

the trusty typewriter that Piaggi used….. YES

endless options when it comes to Anna Piaggi photos. The inspiration keeps coming. Thank you for your enduring presence and cosmic energy.

Anna, now it’s time to make the next realm a bit more ….. well, MORE. (I bet you don’t even need the headbands to keep the hats on anymore!!) :-)

“Look How You Want To Feel!” I’m sure Piaggi would agree….
