Bloomberg chimes in on Chick-Fil-A controversy

The Chick-Fil-A controversy continues, and now New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has thrown in his two cents: there will be no ban on Chick-Fil-A in NYC.

After the Mayors of Boston, Chicago and San Francisco vowed to prohibit the fast food chain from opening up locations in their cities, Bloomberg said on his radio show said that company’s stance on gay marriage is none of “the government’s business.” He continued that “to look at somebody’s political views and decide whether or not they can live in the city, or operate a business in the city, or work for somebody in the city” is inappropriate. He also cited freedom of speech laws.

According to Bloomberg, Menino (Boston), Emanuel (Chicago) and Lee (San Francisco) are “really good mayors [but are] trampling on the freedom to marry whoever you want is exactly the same as trampling on your freedom to open a store.”

New York City currently has one Chick-Fil-A operating at New York University. If the restaurant wants to expand in the city, it is welcome to file the necessary permits, he says.

All four mayors are strong supporters of same-sex marriage.
