The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) asked United States Attorney General Eric Holder for his help getting recognition for gay marriages that were performed before an appeals court issued a stay on a previous order that declared Indiana’s gay marriage ban unconstitutional.

Playbill goes gay for Pride

Playbill adds rainbow to cover and logo to celebrate gay pride.

In celebration of gay pride month, Playbill magazine has added a rainbow flag to its iconic logo that graces the cover of each addition.  The best news is that you can be a part of the LGBT celebration!

Gay Bar Says No Women After 11PM!


A gay bar is supposed to be a place where members of the LGBT community get together to socialize, get away from the pressures of their everyday lives, and just be themselves.  But Wang’s in Chicago see it differently.  According to The Huffington Post, they ban females at their busiest hour and it is being investigated by the Department of Human Rights.  Located in the gay friendly Boystown Neighborhood, Wang’s is one of several businesses under scrutiny for not accepting women.  There is an irony to this  because the East Lakeview neighborhood is made clear “by the slightly phallic giant rainbow pylons that line the streets” showing where all can eat, drink and be merry.  A drink menu on the wall of Wang’s contains “Men Only After 11p.m.”  It has made several area residents upset and angry.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing for the Marriage Fairness Act, a bill that would legalize same-sex marriages in the state of Illinois despite the uncertainty of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Speaking to the Chicago-Sun Times earlier today, Emanuel said that “when you have two loving adults, that should be held up as a positive — whether it’s male-female, or, in this case, female-female or male-male, that’s proper. We shouldn’t as a state discriminate.” Get more…

West Side Story: 50th Anniversary Edition on Blu-Ray TOMORROW!


50 professional dancers spontaneously burst into WEST SIDE STORY choreography in Times Square on Friday, November 11, 2011 to mark the 50th anniversary of the film and upcoming release on Blu-ray for the first time tomorrow, November 15th.

The flash mob was organized by YouTube partnership network DanceOn with help from choreographer Joshua Bergasse (Smash, NBC) who re-created the film’s iconic choreography (originated by Jerome Robbins) with this dance tribute.

Some of the dancers taking part in the flash mob have performed in productions of “West Side Story” and/or currently performing in the Broadway productions of “Follies,” “Chicago,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Rock of Ages” and “Wicked.”
