EdInAngora Jonathan Warman will direct a reading of the new musical The Passion of Ed Wood, presented by Musical Mondays (on Thursday) Theatre Lab, on Thursday January 10, 2013 at 6pm at the Jerry Orbach Theater in the Snapple Theater Center. The Passion of Ed Wood has a book and lyrics by Justin Warner and music by Rob Kendt. Musical director is Jody Schum.

In The Passion of Ed Wood, the infamous 1950s Z-movie director, labeled the “worst director of all time,” gets a chance to redeem himself by presenting his incredible life story, narrated by his idol Orson Welles.

Underground Thursday: "Bones" by MS MR

Tomorrow night, Friday, September 28, I will be DJing at the Lush & Lively cocktail hour at the Time Out New York Lounge at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street (between 8th & 9th Ave) from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. I’m switching it up a little bit, since I have discovered a rich vein of orchestral indie pop, like this devastating song from my new favorite band in the world, MS MR. I’ll be playing a bunch of stuff like this, especially from 7 to 7:30pm.

In general, the music at Lush and Lively emphasizes horns and strings, so there will be jazz (classic and “nu”), latin, international orchestral and big band pop and – of course – lots and lots of disco. The Cosmo special is only $3 from 6:30PM to 7:00 PM, and there are $5 drink specials until 9:00 PM.

Underground Thursday Rewind: "Labour of Love" by Hue & Cry

Tomorrow night, Friday, September 14, I will be DJing at the Lush & Lively cocktail hour at the Time Out New York Lounge at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street (between 8th & 9th Ave) from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The music emphasizes horns and strings, so there will be jazz (classic and “nu”), latin, international orchestral and big band pop (like this Northern Soul-inspired 1987 barnstormer from Scottish duo Hue & Cry, huge hit in the UK, didn’t even dent the charts here) and – of course – lots and lots of disco. The Cosmo special is only $3 from 6:30PM to 7:00 PM, and there are $5 drink specials until 9:00 PM.

Charles On… former American Idol contender Kimberley Locke at XL Nightclub in New York [video]

On Friday night, Joshua Sean and I made a late night trip out to XL Nightclub located inside the OUT NYC Urban Resort. Although we are rarely the ones who end up covering this type of event, we’re glad we didn’t miss this chance to see how far Kimberley Locke has come since her third place finish on the second season of American Idol.

Kimberley sounded better than ever and really got the crowd going especially when she closed off her set with her gay anthem “8th World Wonder.”

Here’s a few seconds of that performance that someone in the crowd at XL snapped as Locke was wrapping up.

Although she sounds simply amazing in this video, it still doesn’t give her the true credit she deserves. There is no denying this girl can really sing. Without missing one note through out the performance, Kimberley showed off her gorgeous “celebrity fit club” physique and topped it all off with the glowing smile that she’s become known for.

One of the best parts about living in New York us when you roll into a nightlife event not knowing what to expect and leaving with that big city smile and warm fuzzies from more than the 90 degree temperatures at two o’clock in the morning.

Thanks to Kim Locke performs at XL Nightclub in NYCKim for reminding us what New York nightlife is still capable of doing and her publicity team at Big Machine led by Lauren Sachs for inviting us out. We also have to send our appreciation to Brandon Voss and Tony Forbiano for keeping the RockIt party going strong. Last, but definitely not least, I have to mention the club’s Friday night door diva. No matter how your evening at XL ends, it always gets off to a true New York start at the door with Markus! As a former list bitch myself (way back when we were still using stone tablets and not electronic ones), I give him nothing but props from head to toe!

Underground Thursday: "By and By" by Renny Wilson

Tomorrow night, Friday, August 10, I will be DJing at the Lush & Lively cocktail hour at the Time Out New York Lounge at New World Stages 340 West 50th Street (between 8th & 9th Ave) from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The music emphasizes horns and strings, so there will be jazz (classic and “nu”), latin, international orchestral and big band pop (like this groovy slice of Canadian sophisti-pop) and – of course – lots and lots of disco. The Cosmo special is only $3 from 6:30PM to 7:00 PM, and there are $5 drink specials until 9:00 PM.
Find the Renny Wilson video below (I’m enjoying this trend of official videos that more closely resemble fan videos).
