Only a few years ago this medium sized bar on N. 6th St in Williamsburg known as The Cove attempted to start a gay night in the heart of hipster heaven which played well with the all-too-willing local crowd despite its life being cut too short and way too soon. Now, the owners of the gin joint are officially launching the place with a brand-spanking new name and a long list of younger, local Brooklyn talents ranging from drag queens, bands, DJs, and bartenders.

It what was once part of Brooklyn’s thriving industrial parks. In typical Twilight Zone fashion this was my stop at Willoughby on the Morgan station off the L. The subway can take you there but I decided to walk it after Jonathan and BPro invited me to experience what the locals call Morgantown. Officially unrecognized except for those who embrace life there, this up and coming hot spot is home to hundreds of artists and hipster types who have an itch to live off the map and away from their spoiled Williamsburg neighbors.

Daily Dapper: Champagne Riot Spices Up Iridium

In a city full of parties and events where most lack creative talent and variety, there’s one event that still takes the garter belt for me. Armed with their spot-on vintage wardrobes and ability to woo an audience, the guys and gals of Champagne Riot threw another showstopper performance this past Tuesday evening at the intimate Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway. Rightfully titled Teach Me Tonight and assisting that back to school crowd in downing one more drink before hitting the books once more.
