Vice President Joe Biden doesn’t seem to be trying too hard to keep his intentions of running for President in 2016 a secret, but it won’t be an easy run especially since he’s starting his bid four years too early and his own flaws aren’t even his biggest obstacle.

Charles on… Paris Hilton's remarks about gay men
Paris Hilton has come under fire for remarks she made in a New York City cab earlier this month. As Thomas Bistritz reported on Thursday when Paris was introduced to Grindr, an app used by gay menn to meet other gay men, the woman who became famous over a sex tape made some pretty harsh statements about gay men.
Hilton’s comments were recorded by the cab driver, and Radaronline released the audio file. In the recording, Paris can be heard saying gay men are “disgusting” and that “most of them probably have AIDS” among other judgmental remarks.
Her rep says the comments were taken out of context, and while that might be true… Ms. Hilton should be disgusted with herself! Do I believe that Paris Hilton believes all gay men are “disgusting” or infected with AIDS? No, I do not. I believe she probably was referring to those she saw using Grindr to find a hook up. Still, I don’t think that justifies her comments.
This judgemental outburst comes from a woman whose nasty vagina was viewed by millions of viewers as she allowed a man to record them having intercourse. If anyone is an expert on what is disgsting, it is someone who participates in such an activity. However, Ms. Hilton should also know what it feels like to be judged and ridiculed. She should, therefore, know better than to pass judgement on others.
Furthermore, if anyone has stood behind Paris in her time indescretion, it was the gay community. And everyone knows, you have to watch what you say in public. Otherwise it is subject to public scrutiny. So, I have no pity for Paris in regards to the fact that her conversation was recorded.
I don’t use Grindr, as I don’t need to; however it hurt my feelings to listen to those remarks bleed from her mouth. Then I was quickly reminded who it was that I heard talking. They say those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I think that statement applies to those who have souls. The remarks that Ms. Hilton made implies that she does not fit into that classification.
Charles On… the ridiculous drink ban in New York City
Ban trans fat… seems to be anti-democratic, but ok. Ban smoking in public… again, seems more like a dictatorship, but ok. Now, Mayor Mike Bloomberg is banning the sale of drinks above 16 ounces in New York City. That’s crossing the line.
Starting in March, New York City eateries and bodegas that sell drinks larger than that size will have their health department score lowered simply by doing so. This means theaters, restaurants and delis will have to drop these items from the menu or be branded a scarlet letter by the City of New York.
Everyone who knows me knows that I can rarely be seen without a large beverage in my hand. Some people joke that these big drinks are my signature. Others say they represent my security blanket. In all reality, I’m just thirsty.
I’ve been a supporter of Mayor Michael Bloomberg for many years, and I believe he has the fundamentals of a good leader. However, with ridiculous bans like this one on the size of beverage we consume, I have to question if he might just be a little power hungry. As he completes his unprecedented third term, something he has only been able to do after pushing a measure allowing him to do so, I have to wonder if Mayor Mike has just gone mad or is just pushing the envelope to see how much power he has.
Bloomberg says he decided to ban drinks larger than 16 ounces to help fight obesity. I’m calling shenanigans! After March 1st, New Yorkers will still be able to march into the movie theatre and get a pop corn the size of an average Manhattan apartment and huge boxes of candy, but we can’t get a large drink. We’ll still be able to roll into McDonald’s and Super Size it, but our drinks will still be less than 16 ounces. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to address the food before tackling the beverages?
If he wants to make me believe that he really cares about fat kids, then Bloomy needs to tackle some of the bigger problems facing our city. I can’t count the number of kids who have been shot in this city over the past year without using a calculator. Couldn’t the time spent fighting the demons that lie within big gulps have been spent more wisely? The answer is really not debatable.
I’m a grown man, and if I choose to drink a 32 ounce sweet tea then its my right. Not to say that I don’t support it, but New York is considering the legalization of marijuana. This means I’ll soon be able to legally purchase a dime bag, but not a large sweet tea from McDonalds. Something just doesn’t add up.
As Granny Winters used to say, what is this world coming to?!#
Charles On… How NBC treated Ann Curry is disgusting
On Thursday morning, I sat and watched Ann Curry say a tearful good-bye to her viewers on Today. Clearly, the news veteran was teary eyed. Just a little over a year ago, she started her dream job as the co-host of Today. Now, she’s been forced out.
Curry’s tenure at Today spans my entire journalistic career including my time studying broadcasting in college. As such, she is truly someone I admire and aspire to be like. Her poise under pressure and her story telling ability is unparalleled.
The way Ann was treated is embarrassing, but she isn’t the one who should be embarrassed or the one taking accountability for failure. NBC should be ashamed of themselves for acting too fast making themselves look like amateurs.
