Gay marriage, legal pot look promising in Washington State

Gay marriage and legal marijuana lead Washington pollsGay marriage and legalized marijuana, two issues that have sparked controversy in Washington State, look they could pass this November in Washington.  According to the new statewide Elway Poll, both issues are leading.

Initiative 502, which would legalize, regulate and tax sale of marijuana to adults, is up 50-38 percent with 12 percent still undecided.  That’s a considerable jump from July’s poll which showed the imitative leading by only 46-44 percent.

Referendum 74, which approves same-sex marriage, is leading by a 52-40 percent margin with 8 percent undecided.  Those numbers are a little higher in favor of marriage equality as compared to July’s poll.

If the referendum passes, it will ratify legislation which passed State lawmakers in February and was signed by Governor Chris Gregoire.  If passed, that will make Washington the seventh state to legalize same sex marriage.
