While Mike Huckabee is calling for a Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day on August 1st, a new campaign hopes to “STEAL THE NEWS CYCLE” and counteract it with a Chick-Fil-A DEpreciation Day.
“I’m afraid simply choosing not to eat at Chick-Fil-A this Wednesday ISN’T ENOUGH,” states a recent Facebook campaign. Instead, the organizers of DEpreciation Day are calling for customers to patronize McDonald’s and order their knockoff, the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich.
“I’m going to take pictures of the receipt and me enjoying that sandwich. I will then post those pictures ON THIS EVENT PAGE, on MY TIMELINE and, if possible, the timelines for Chick-Fil-A and the Hollywood Chick-Fil-A (my local restaurant),” writes Tim Sheridan. He is urging others to do the same.
The philosophy behind the counter-protest is simple: while the media will most likely be covering those who are enjoying their chicken sandwiches, DEpreciation Day hopes to remind folks that not everyone supports the anti-gay stance of the fast food restaurant.
“I’m not saying we can change the world by buying a sandwich, BUT IF THEY WANT US TO BELIEVE THAT MONEY=SPEECH, THEN LET’S TRY AND SHOUT AS LOUD AS WE CAN THIS WEDNESDAY!” the Facebook event invite states.
It is noteworthy to mention that the McDonald’s alternative contains 20 less calories than the Chick-Fil-A sandwich. Of course, you could always make your own.
