Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cake Shop in Colorado, refuses to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. As a result, his little bakery has been the location of protesters who are calling for a boycott.
Phillips says he can’t make a cake for a cause that he doesn’t support.
“If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever. It’s just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle,” Phillips said.
Dozens of protesters outside his business say that his actions speak louder than his words. They believe by refusing to make the cake for the same sex couple constitutes as prejudice against the LGBT community.
They say they’ll be back with a larger group to protest again next weekend.
