Welcome back to FASHION FOCUS, fashionistas!
So, what shall we discuss this time? How about MALLORY WESTON?! Who is Mallory Weston? Well, she is someone that I bumped into while doing what so many of us get trapped doing, browsing my newsfeed on Facebook. While scrolling down, reading things, and lol-ing at funny e-cards messages, I happened to see this image….
and then after the obligatory gay gasp and “wow” I saved the photo and said to myself “You’re gonna do a small piece on this one’s crafts!”
First off, I would love to have this vest for many reasons, but the most obvious reason is that it’s just amazing! The colors, the texture, the design, very striking. Made using “DENIM VEST, CONCRETE, MACHINE SCREWS, SPRAY-PAINT” Concrete, eh? Must be heavy…. and that makes it even more attractive to me. Something about a heavy garment, or heavy jewelry… I just love it.
Speaking of heavy jewelry, check out these copper pendants:

These pendants are something I could definitely see myself wearing proudly. Bold pieces are very me, and these put me in the mind of the amazing work of JOJO AMERICO in his “1919″ collections…. (get into it, available at Patricia Field and special order). The monochromatic-ness of the pendant on the right is just as stunning as the colorful edition on the left. It also harkens back to the tessallations we did as a kid and also brings me back to my lessons on tessellations as an art teacher in the South Bronx.
Along with the copper pieces, this Counterweight necklace is another piece that gives you a different aspect in regards to the statement necklace… check it out

I could see wearing this necklace in several different ways:
-One panel in front, the other in back
-both panels in front, sitting on either shoulder
-colorblocking with the panels to create colorful illusions
-incorporating the piece into a headwear situation (on a brave , minimal-movement kinda night)
and the ideas keep coming! Since it wasn’t shown on a model, it leaves the styling up to your own interpretations!

These “Good Luck” and “Bad Luck” Brooches are also very interesting and fun.

If worn by me, I’d wear them together. I’m not sure of the sizing, but I feel that if worn together it shows more balance and feels more authentic. For example, if I wore the Good Luck Brooch it would feel too cheesy, cheery, and would serve as an invitation for idiots to ruin that happy face feeling. If the Bad Luck Brooch was worn alone, it would paint a solemn picture of the wearer and increase chances of bad vibes coming your way. But that’s just MY opinion. You don’t have to agree or disagree… just think about it.
“LOOK HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL!” (FASHION FOCUS’ theme, in case you’ve forgotten)
Lastly, this is another piece that I could easily see going for a jog, or a hike in… ![]()
the heading says “CONCRETE STUDS”, the caption says “UNTITLED”, FASHION FOCUS says “INCREDIBLE” and “WE WANT IT!”
Check it out:

made using “CONCRETE, MACHINE SCREWS, WASHERS, SPRAY-PAINT, CANVAS” , this piece looks fun and lightweight, even though I’m sure it isn’t. After all, concrete is involved! it’s a very inspiring piece that makes me want to see Weston’s work on a runway…
So there you have it! Mallory Weston has definitely done some great work and I’m glad that I bumped into that initial image. I hope to hear and see more from her. I’m still stunned by the use of CONCRETE…. I need that vest!
If you want to keep up with Mallory Weston’s work just pay attention to her blog, http://westoncraft.blogspot.com/ And if you want to bestow any of these pieces upon me in gift form, I would be eternally grateful! wink wink!
Until next time kids, keep it FOCUSed! and Look How You Want To Feel…. ALWAYS!
