The nominees for the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning in Los Angeles by ABC’s “Scandal” star Kerry Washington and late night host Jimmy Kimmel.  It seems to be cable’s night as several shows from HBO, Showtime, AMC, and FX dominated the nominations.

In the Outstanding Drama Series, none of the big four networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) garnered one nomination. AMC’s “Mad Men” earned 17 nominations and has a chance to win the title of the most honored drama series in history.  So far it ties with “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law” and “The West Wing,”winning four outstanding drama trophies.  Tied with “Mad Men” is FX’s “American Horror Story,” which swept the miniseries category, including acting nods for Connie Britton and in her Golden Globe winning performance, Jessica Lange.  Other leading nominees include PBS’ “Downton Abbey” and two mini-series: HBO’s “Hemingway & Gellhorn” and History Channel’s “Hatfields & McCoys.”

“Modern Family” continues to dominate the Comedy Series nominations with 14 nominations and hoping for a third win in a row.
