New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, known as Gronk to football fans all over the nation, has been known to say some pretty crazy things in interviews. One example was when he made an appearance at the University of Rhode Island and was playing the Fuck-Marry-Kill game using New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, Golden Girl Betty White, and Superbowl opponent Tim Tebow. According to Outsports.com, Gronkowski exclaimed he would “F Tebow to take his virginity.” (Tebow is a self-proclaimed virgin.) He also said he would never reveal a concussion if it meant coming out of a game. Gronk has also known to do some pretty wild and crazy things such as posing shirtless with porn star Bibi Jones and naked for the cover of ESPN Magazine’s annual Body issue (pictured above). But never has he just paused when asked a question until the night of July 11 at the 2012 Espy Awards.
At first when Outsports reporter Cyd Zieglar Jr. approached Rob Gronkowski and told him he was from the “ESPN for homos,” Gronkowski did not want to participate in an interview for fear of saying something wrong. The NFL was already upset with him for his previous behaviors. But he came back to Zieglar Jr. for two questions. First the question that made Rob Gronkowski pause: “Have you ever played with a gay teammate?” Thinking about it he said he did not know of any. The second question came along:
“How would you feel if one of your teammates from the Patriots cam out of the closet this season?”
Gronk took no time to answer:
“If that’s how they are, that’s how they are. I mean, we’re teammates so, as long as he’s being a good teammate and being respectful and everything, that’s cool.”
Rob Gronkowski, Gaysocialites salutes you for being a true gentleman. Openly gay former NFL player Wade Davis summed it up the best in an interview with Zieglar Jr.:
“Just the fact that Gronkowski was willing to be interviewed by you for a gay Web site, it’s powerful to somebody.”
