Whatever you do make sure you do make sure not to compare the music of Justin Bieber to Justin Timberlake. It can end up very ugly as was displayed in a recent radio interview of the pop superstar with the morning show “Mojo in the Morning.” It questioned the maturity of now 18-year-old Bieber and makes many wonder if he can take a compliment. According to the Huffington Post, Bieber became agitated when radio host Mojo commented on similarities with former ‘Nsync front man and solo pop star Timberlake. The following is what Mojo said that set off Justin Bieber:
“I hope you take this as a compliment. When I first got played the song by your record people, and this was months and months before it came out, they said ‘Take a listen to this and tell me if you can tell me who this is.’ I thought it was Justin Timberlake. When I heard ‘Boyfriend’ for the very first time, I thought it was Justin Timberlake’s single.”
Bieber immediately got defensive:
“Man, that’s crazy because our voices sound nothing alike. I mean, I’m not trying to sound like anyone. Saying I sound like someone else is not really a compliment. … I think if you were to say ‘I heard some Justin Timberlake-esque things in your sound,’ I would take that as a compliment.”
This change of attitude contradicts Bieber’s admission in May to MTV’s Sway Calloway that he was “definitely influenced by Timberlake on ‘Boyfriend’:
“[Timberlake] was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music. I can’t say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him.”
But what really made Justin Bieber fly off the handle was when Mojo brought up if Harry Styles of super boy band One Direction might end up seducing Bieber’s mother, for Styles love of older women.
The Biebs response:
“I mean, definitely somewhat [I am friends with One Direction now]. They were in town a while ago and they came over and stuff, but, yeah, they’re good kids. I don’t think you should worry about me [and my mom with Harry Styles] — Worry about your mom, bro.”
