Nabiscos celebrates pride with rainbow Oreo

Nabisco showed their support for gay pride on Monday by sending out this picture of a rainbow Oreo on their social networking accounts.  Don’t get your hopes up though, there doesn’t appear to be any plans to make a cookie to match the photo.

On the official Oreo Twitter, they posted the picture of the rainbow cookie (that clearly reads: Made with creme colors that do not exist) and the message “Celebrate your pride for love!”  They also posted the photo on the official Oreo Facebook page with a message that reads:” Proudly support love!”  By the end of the day, over 130,000 people had liked the photo and more than 16,000 people left comments.   The majority of the feedback on Facebook and Twitter, however a few homophobic remarks were posted wishing for a “dislike” button.  One comment posted by Laura Alex (whose Facebook page can be found here) wrote:

“i’m not a religious nut nor am I a homophobe like all of you liberal idiots think. I just think I doesn’t feel right…Homosexiality is a mental disorder just like autism of ADHD it needs to be cured. [sic]

Her comment was followed by a lot of debate from supporters.  Another comment even poked fun at the fact that people were arguing over a fictitious food.  It simply read:  “You are all arguing over a cookie hahahha.”

Nabisco (nor Oreo) have released any official statement over the rainbow colored cookie or its photo.
