As Thomas Bistritz reported earlier this week at GaySocialites.com, a California Appeals Court has decided not to hear a case in which anti-gay marriage groups are trying to overturn a judge’s decision to rule Proposition 8 as unconstitutional. And as Thomas promised, I’m sounding off on it!
Proposition 8 is, of course, California’s ban on gay marriage. It yanked marriage equality out from underneath gays and lesbians who live in that state after a court already deemed gay marriage as legal.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. It is a shame that so many homophobic loud mouths haven’t realized that they’re on the wrong side of the civil rights battle of our life times. In the very near future, these people are going to be listed in history books the same way as those racists who opposed the end of slavery.
As a New Yorker, I can speak as a resident of a state that has legalized gay marriage. No one here has died as a result. No religious organization has been forced to marry gay couples. As a matter of fact, many churches have now opened their door to gay marriage, and the economy is thriving as a result.
Get over it people! How does it affect you if two people of the same sex wed? It doesn’t. Isn’t there a soup kitchen somewhere nearby that you can volunteer this time you have on your hands? They could probably even use the money you’re wasting as you try to suppress a minority. If you’re opposing gay marriage, “because its the Christian thing to do”… then go out and do something that will actually make God happy. Right now, you’re pissing Him off. AND, Jesus wasn’t married either. Maybe it’s because he was gay and couldn’t. I’m just saying…
From here, the Prop 8 homophobes are taking their case to the Supreme Court. I hope the US Justices not only deny their appeal, but I hope they also issue a ruling that it is unconstitutional nationwide. That would suck for them if their hard work bites them in the ass. It might be the best way to silence their hatred.
