Adam Lambert's "Trespessing" debuts at number 1 on Billboard charts

Not only is Adam Lambert the 7th American Idol to debut at number 1 on the Billboard album charts, but he is the first openly gay male artist in history to do so.

“Trespassing”, Lambert’s second album, debuts at number 1 with 77,000 copies sold according to Neilsen SoundScan.

AfterElton.com points out that “other gay performers such as Elton John and George Michael have hit #1, but only before they came out, and they haven’t managed that honor since.”

Lambert acknowledged the accomplishment via Twitter:

Glamily? Oy. But hey, any sort of visibility is good, right?
