New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn is a married woman! She married Kim Catullo over the weekend in a private ceremony in Chelsea.
Speaker Quinn and her bride played host to a political who’s who including several gay marriage advocates such as Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Liz Maloney, Tom Duane and his husband, in addition Governor Andrew Cuomo who signed the legislation legalizing gay marriage last year. Both US Senators representing New York, Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Shumer, joined at least 10 City Council members and nearly 300 other guests for the ceremony which was officiated by Former State Appellate Judge Judith Kaye.
The wedding’s theme was centered around New York City and took place at a former carriage house in Chelsea owned by the Astor Family. Decor included large photos of such iconic Manhattan landmarks as the Empire State Building, Washington Square Park and the New York City library. There was also a full-sized MTA Subway map on map on display (matching the invitations) and each table was themed after a different New York City neighborhood. Speaker Quinn wore a gown by New York-based designer Carolina Herrera, and Catullo wore a suit by Bronx native Ralph Lauren. They exchanged bands by Doyle and Doyle.
Both women lost their mothers to cancer, but each of their fathers walked them down the isle. The couple encouraged guests to make a donation to a women’s cancer charity in lieu of gifts.
