We’ve all heard about the “almighty gay dollar” and amid reported profit losses it appears to be that JCPenney is going after some of that gay money. It looks like it might be working too!
In a mother’s day promotion, JCPenney featured a same-sex couple with their daughter. A group called One Million Moms evidently lodged a complaint with JCPenney regarding their decision to include lesbian women in the mothers’ day catalog.
According to YouGov BrandIndex, a UK-based research group that measures public perceptions of brands, JCPenney’s brand health ‘rose’ after One Million Moms released a complaint against the retailer earlier this month.
Earlier this year, JCPenney also announced openly gay talk show host, Ellen Degeneres, as their spokesperson.
JCPenney isn’t the only company being targeted by One Milion Moms. They also went after Urban Outfitters after the featured two lesbians kissing in one of their advertisements.
