Welcome back to the FOCUS!
The annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City was held this week and the looks the looks the LOOKS! This year, fashion’s finest are celebrating Prada as well as Elsa Schiaparelli, who together comprise the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Impossible Conversations”.
Approximately 800 guests attended the Gala this year, and Ms Wintour announced that over $11million had been raised for the Costume Institute, its biggest sum yet.
We’ll be venturing through some of these fashions, starting with Anna Wintour in Prada’s tribute to Schiaparelli’s Lobster Dress.
Wintour’s Daughter, Bee Shaffer, accompanied her and looked stunning (at least I thought she did).
Let’s get this out of the way…..
Beyonce, Beyonce, Beyonce…. Now…
don’t get me wrong, I kinda love the dress, but on the model the dress was white and in my opinion looked much better… see comparison below:
Obviously she had it tailored to her but the shoulder seams are off and ill-fitting. Something is just not right, but I do like the dress. (And…. dare I say it… could this be Beyonce’s real hair?! When you see other photos check it out and tell me. Looks like it could be hers by the thickness of the ponytail. Who knows?)
TREND AT THE GALA #1: Backless (when is this NOT the trend? -yawn)
Not saying that I don’t like the dresses, but to say that backless is a trend is like saying that the carpet is red… Backless is and always has been in fashion, right? Come on….
You’ll definitely hear more about this dress and that hip bone! Ajna Rubik in this cutout Vacarello dress….. looks like she also took a note from Angelina Jolie’s leg.
(Now for those of you with not so nice thoughts, this gala is meant to put outrageous and daring fashions on display. Besides the fact that I love McQueen, I love the whimsy of these dresses.)
Alicia Keys….. in a suit O_O
Moving on to a few dresses that I LOVE!
Carey Mulligan in a GORGEOUS Silver and Golden Prada dress
Chloe Sevigny in mirrored Miu Miu! I Love this on Chloe and the model!
TREND AT THE GALA #2: Feathers – You won’t catch these ladies molting!
On to more colorful numbers…
Karlie Kloss in Jason Wu and Emma Stone in Lanvin are representing Schiaparelli wearing pink, as many others did in their own ways…
Coco Rocha, wearing Elizabeth Taylor’s vintage Givenchy yellow suit.
Giancarlo Giametti Sarah Jessica Parker and Valentino
TREND AT THE GALA #3: Peplum
M.I.A. and Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney with Stella McCartney
I am making up my mind how I’m feeling about M.I A. in this look…. I’ve never been a fan of Cameron Diaz, but she looks great in the dress.
Versace Representation, Donatella and Gisele
I think Christina Ricci almost found a bow that was large enough…
Chelsea Clinton and Dakota Fanning…. MEH!
Others you might have wondered about (but ones that always make me change the channel!):
Gwyneth Paltrow (Prada), Kirsten Dunst (Rodarte), Kristen Stewart (Balenciage-and a stained Balenciaga-ick!), and Lea Michele (she looks GREAT in DVF and finally not doing that stupid pose she always does!)…..
Mary Kate Olsen in a dress by her own label, The Row…
(is she auditioning for the “Dark Shadows” sequel?) Believe it or not, I like the look. She’s giving a look that is a construction and not just a messy looking hobo, oops, BOHO-CHIC mess!
(Damn she’s rich though!)
This is Dior COUTURE….. Jessica Stam is SERVING it!!!!
Now this just makes me shake myhead…..I DON’T LIKE!
Leighton Meester (sorry for that name hun) in Marchesa
Rihanna in a crocodile-embossed Tom Ford……. but what was she thinking about that HAIR! I could see something structured and standing towards the skies. Underwhelmed with the hair. Would have enjoyed seeing this dress on someone more exciting. #READ
Last but not least, Rachel Zoe impressed me with this golden creation. It’s not new, it’s not modern, and it’s not original…. (shut up, I’m being nice!) … but it’s GORGEOUS! I love it and I like the headwear too. Karolina Kurkova looks INCREDIBLE.
I think this is a good place to stop….. Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to run something amazing across the red carpet at the Gala. Maybe you too!
**Look how you want to F E E L**
see you next time, Thanks for keeping it FOCUSed
