Is Queen Latifah using her gay pride debut as a chance to come out of the closet?

Queen Latifah is set to headline next weekend’s Gay Pride celebration in Long Beach.  Although this her first pride performance, that doesn’t mean the rapper/ actress is coming out of the closet just yet.

Contrary to reports across the web, the press release announcing Latifah’s performance at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival on May 19 does not mention her sexual orientation.

In the announcement for the event, Long Beach Co-President Pat Crosby says, “From hip to R&B, pop to standards, Queen Latifah is the voice of our generation, and her concert here will be phenomenal, for her to make her worldwide Pride debut here in Long Beach is a tremendous testament to the popularity of our celebration and to the strength of our community.”

Gay Pride celebrations from coast-to-coast generally feature a headlining performance by a female.   When other singers such as Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce took the stage, the blogosphere didn’t make the assumption that they were lesbians.  However, Queen Latifah has been questioned about her sexuality for many years.  Latifah was photographed getting cozy with celebrity fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins, someone she is rumored to have been been dating  until late last year.

GaySocialites.com will have reporters covering Long Beach’s Gay Pride celebration next weekend, and we’ll let you know if Queen Latifah uses this performance as her chance to publicly come out of the closet.
