Earlier this morning, GaySocialites.com told you about the changes already taking place at New York City’s newest nightlife attraction, XL Nightclub. In “I Heard…”, you learned of a new Thursday night event. Now, GaySocialites.com can exclusively report the details of this new weekly party and take a look at the controversies that may lie ahead.
GaySocialites.com has learned that the new Thursday night at XL Nightclub will be called “20Something”, and the guys behind it are already familiar names if you party on Thursday nights in Chelsea. ”20 Something” is the brainchild of Justin Luke and Steve Sidewalk who currently work at Splash for Campus Thursdays, a long-running twinky affair brought to you by Alan Picus and BoiParty.com.
One can’t help but wonder how and why “20Something” came about when Sidewalk has been at Campus Thursdays for as long as most can remember and Justin Luke is attached to Alan Picus via BoiParty.com.
So, maybe this GaySocialites.com exclusive can shed some light on why Justin Luke and Steve Sidewalk decided to bail on Splash and move-on-up to XL.
For both Steve and Justin, this seems like a chance for each of them to advance into a new role at a highly popular new venue. Sidewalk, who currently spins in the lower level lounge at Splash, will be taking over the main floor at XL.
“When John Blair approached me to come and spin on his main floor, I welcomed the opportunity,” Sidewalk told GaySocialites.com exclusively.
Justin Luke, currently a sub-promoter at Campus Thursday, sees this as his chance to take the lead for the first time.
“I’m beyond excited to be headlining my first event in New York City, and at NYC’s hottest, newest dance spot, no less,” he said in an exclusive interview with GaySocialites.com.
So, what do the guys at Splash think about this? Picus, at least, seems to be in support of the “20Something” venture that Justin and Steve are taking.
“I’d like to thank my business partner, Alan Picus, of BoiParty.com for allowing me this dream opportunity,” he said.
And Steve Sidewalk says he will continue to play the lounge at JB Saturdays which also takes place at XL with Alan who promotes the event with John Blair and Beto Sutter.
Both Justin and Steve, however, say “20something” is more about bringing a quality pop party to Hell’s Kitchen that appeals to those who may no longer fall into that twinky category rather than competing against Campus Thursdays or Splash.
“Hell’s Kitchen has been in need a pop dance party for a long time,” Sidewalk told us. He warns, “Thursdays will never be the same for the twenty-somethings in Hell’s Kitchen. Plan on calling in late or not going in at all on Friday mornings.”
Sidewalk is no stranger to pop music, spinning on the main floor at a well known venue or Hell’s Kitchen. His award winning “Hot Mess” party turned heads and made headlines for many years and ended its run at HK Lounge several years ago. He has also spun the main floor at such mega clubs as Limelight and the Fire Island Pines Pavillion. Most recently, he ended a run at Heaven where played pop music weekly to a party that once packed thousands into the now defunct venue.
“20something” kicks off on Thursday, March 8th with a one-year celebration party for the “20something” Facebook group which boasts over 6200 members. This event will continue weekly replacing the Susan Bartsch/ Kenny Kenny party previously held at XL on Thursdays.
